Masjid al-Haram Expansion 2020

Each year more than 10 million Muslims visit Makkah for performing either Umrah or Hajj. On the Occasion of Hajj or in the month of Ramazan thousands of Worshipers were found standing in courtyards & streets around the Mosque.

As a result Saudi Government ordered for the expansion of Masjid-al-Haram (Makkah) to accommodate the increasing number of Pilgrims each year.

The expansion was ordered by King Abdullah, This project would increase the Grand Mosque's capacity by nearly 5 million worshippers at one time & the Tawaf Performers will reach 105,000 an hour. The new project covers 750,000 square meters in the northwest and northeast of the mosque. This expansion will open a new era in the history of Makkah.

According to Saudi Government, this Project would take three year and it consists of three phases.

• The first would cover Al-Safa to Al-Fatah Gate, 
• The second Al-Fatah Gate to Al-Umrah Gate. 
• The third King Fahd Expansion Area to Al-Safa.
